House Mouse - mus domesticus
Have you recovered from South Jersey's cold snap last weekend? It came a little early this year and the snow could have made Halloween a "real" nightmare for our children!

Lucky for South Jersey - we got more rain than snow. You may have noticed all of the "critters" that live in your yard (squirrels, mice and chipmunks, to name a few) have gotten a little more aggressive - gathering all their acorns and burrowing in mulch and leaf piles.

These critters may be "cute" but most of these rodents carry diseases and you do NOT want them to find a way into your home to nest for the winter!

Some FUN Facts:

Did you know a mouse can squeeze into a hole the size of a nickel?

Eastern Chipmunk Tamias Striatus
Did you know the chipmunk's mouth is small, but its cheeks can expand to three times its head size? Chipmunks have pouches in their cheeks which allow them to keep food in their cheeks until they can transfer it to their burrows.

Did you know you can tell the temperature by counting a cricket's chirps?

The higher the temperature the more chirps a minute a cricket generates. When the temperature is 52 Fahrenheit, crickets chirp about 60 times a minute. You can predict the temperature by counting the number of chirps with the following equation:

The number of chirps in 15 seconds + 37 = the temperature in Fahrenheit.

Some NOT SO FUN Facts:

Did you know crickets damage clothing, carpeting and other fabrics including wool, cotton, silk, and synthetics?

Did you know to make sure the chipmunks have the tools that it needs to gnaw at seed pods, acorns, etc., their incisors are continuously growing! I don't need to tell you what this means if they claim a spot in your home!

Did you know insects (like Stink Bugs and Crickets) will also be trying to find a warm place to over-winter, and the most likely place is your home.

And, we all know the damage squirrels can cause when they take up residence!
