So you have been told your Cherry Hill home has termites – how do you decide between Termite Bait Stations or Traditional Liquid Termite Treatment?

There are two acceptable methods for treating a house for termites. The first is a liquid treatment applying a non-repellant termiticide that creates an invisible barrier between the entire structure and the ground. The second is a baiting system that attempts to attract termites and subsequently poison the termite colony. The baiting system approach calls for the bait stations to be placed sporadically around the house and monitored to see if termites have infested the wood bait in the station.

In our experience when baiting stations are used it is very possible that termites could infest your house without ever moving to the bait stations. There could be conditions present in the structure such as water leakage, moisture problems, contact between wood in the structure and the ground, and structural defects that would make the house conducive to termite activity. It is also possible that the wood bait used to attract the termites could become contaminated by a technician as he is handling the product. This contamination could result in the termites instinctively avoiding the wood bait. Inspections of the bait stations could show no activity while termites are infesting the structure and be causing damage to your home.

We believe treating a house using a Non-repellant Liquid Termite Treatment is more effective than baiting systems.

In our opinion, the best way to protect your house from termites is to have your home inspected once each year since the goal is prevent a termite infestation in the house. If an infestation is found, a liquid termite treatment using a Non-repellant Liquid Termite Treatment is the most effective method for treatment. Non-repellent products are not easily detected by termites, so the insects do not know to avoid the treated area. Forager termites are the first to confront these non-repellent products and they become carriers of the termiticide. They then share the active ingredient with the rest of the colony during feeding and grooming – effectively eliminating and controlling the colony’s members.

Homeowners who rely on baiting systems for termite protection are still at risk for infestation and should consider a termite service plan that relies on inspections and liquid treatments with with a non-repellant termiticide, such as Termidor.

What our Customers Have to Say:

"Ed from AB-Con came today to take care of the termite problem in our newly purchased home. After doing the treatment, he showed me where he saw the termites and sure enough I could see their mud tubes running along the spots he marked and saw a few termites. He then proceeded to remove the wood and split it open; sure enough, it was teeming with termites.

I took a few pictures of the wood showing the damage, the termites that fell out as he tapped the wood, and showing the paint marks the previous inspectors or contractors added when they said there was "no" damage.

I'm glad we made the right choice and went with Ed and AB-Con to get this work done properly.

Thanks AB-Con for your help in our real estate transaction. We're loving the house!"

Mark Fenkner, Marlton, NJ

"I just sold my home and I had no problems with the sale because AB-CON has been inspecting it for termites since 2006. The Termite Renewal warranty even transferred over to the new homeowners - thanks so much!"

Thomas Lepatich, Cherry Hill, NJ

"We have been customers of AB-Con Termite and Pest Control since we purchased our Cinnaminson home in 2001. Our home was already covered under warranty by the previous homeowners and the termite warranty was transferred into our name by a phone call. Since then, AB-Con comes out each year to re-inspect our home for live termite activity – and there has been none! We have also used them successfully for some pest issues we have had over the years. We would recommend AB-Con to anyone – and we have!"
