4 Reasons Why You Need a Professional to Take Care of Your Ant Problem

little-blackantAs a follow-up to our previous blog – “Are Ants Marching Into Your South Jersey Home?” – the first places you will see spring ant activity in South Jersey may occur under building slabs, around heat ducts and furnaces, around appliances and as the sun warms building voids.

The only way to ensure effective ant control is to have a professional exterminator inspect, identify, recommend a treatment plan and then evaluate the results.

Here are 4 Reasons Why You Need Professional Help for Your Ant Problem:

1. Ants change their attitude toward food without notice.

They may want sugars, sometimes proteins, and other times fats – which food they will accept and what form it comes in (granules, gel, liquid) are both very difficult to predict.

2. There are LOTS and LOTS of ants.

There are more than 12,000 species in the world, over 1,000 species in the United States and 20-30 species that are known to invade structures here.
Multiple ant colonies may be around a home – each colony with their own Queen, and each colony with thousands to millions of ants.

3. Ants can travel long distances to obtain food for their colony.
The ant colony can be a few feet or miles from your home. Only a small percentage of ants from the colony are out foraging for food at any given time – so killing the ants you see in your home will not solve your ant problem.

4. Ants are SOCIAL – the Queen ant controls the colony.

As long as the Queen is alive, an ant colony will continue. We need to find the nest and kill the Queen in order to destroy the colony.

Until you know exactly what “type” of ant you are dealing with – with its own specific characteristics and patterns of behavior – an effective treatment plan cannot be obtained.

A little patience and an understanding of why you may see ants from time to time will help you to work with your Pest Control Professional to solve your ant problem.
